WHERE TO BASE YOURSELF
Ljubljana
Ideal baseThe capital is the perfect starting point. Central, well-connected, 1h from Bled, 1.5h from Piran. 2-3 nights minimum.
Bled
Ideal basePerfect for exploring the Julian Alps and Triglav National Park. Romantic atmosphere by the lake. 2 nights minimum.
Bovec / Kobarid
StopBase camp for the Soča Valley. Water sports, hiking, via ferrata. 1-2 nights.
Piran
GetawayThe jewel of the Adriatic. Venetian atmosphere, seafood, sunsets. 1-2 nights sufficient.
Maribor
StopGateway to the Styrian wine country. Wine route, Pohorje. Often overlooked by tourists, unfairly so. 1 night.
Patrick's Tip
For a first visit of 7 days, I recommend: 3 nights in Ljubljana, 2 nights in Bled, 1 night in Bovec and 1 night in Piran. This is the classic route that covers the essentials without rushing.
