Youth Hostels

Modern and design hostels for solo travelers, backpackers and budget-conscious visitors.

NEXT-GENERATION HOSTELS

Slovenia has refreshed its youth hostel offerings with modern, stylish and comfortable spaces. Gone are the days of run-down dorms — now you'll find trendy common areas, pod beds with curtains and USB outlets, and rooftops with views of Ljubljana Castle.

The absolute flagship is Hostel Celica in Ljubljana, a former Austro-Hungarian military prison transformed into a youth hostel. Each cell has been redesigned by a different artist — it's as much a cultural venue as it is accommodation. Even if you don't stay here, it's worth a visit.

Beyond Ljubljana, the selection is more limited but still available. Bled, Piran and Maribor each have quality hostels. It's the most social form of accommodation: shared common areas, communal kitchens and organized activities make it easy to meet fellow travelers.

PRACTICAL TIPS

Booking

Hostelworld and Booking.com are the best platforms. During peak season (June-August), book 2-3 weeks in advance, especially for Celica which often fills up quickly.

Safety

Slovenia is one of the safest countries in Europe. Hostels have lockers — bring your own lock. Theft is rare but it's good to be cautious.

Private Rooms

Most hostels offer private double rooms for €50-70. A good compromise between backpacker budget and hotel comfort.

Activities

Hostels often organize free walking tours, bar crawl nights and day trips. It's the best way to meet fellow travelers.
