Logarska Dolina

One of Europe's most beautiful glacial valleys: 7 km of meadows beneath the walls of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, ending at the Rinka waterfall.

Flat meadows edged with forest, century-old farms, and at the far end an amphitheatre of limestone walls: Logarska Dolina unrolls seven kilometres of glacial valley in the heart of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps — scenery so perfect it is ranked among Europe's most beautiful alpine valleys. Protected as a landscape park since 1987, it has stayed agricultural: no resort, no apartment blocks, just a handful of farm-inns.

The Rinka waterfall

At the end of the valley, an easy walk leads to the Rinka waterfall, about 90 metres high, where the newborn Savinja leaps off the cliff. It is the classic outing — allow half a day with a stop at the hut overlooking the falls.

The Solčava panoramic road

Above the valley, the Solčava panoramic road links hill farms, viewpoints and local wool workshops, with the Grintovec peaks as a backdrop. It is one of the country's finest drives — take it slowly, windows down.

Walking: from the Rinka to the Okrešelj cirque

The valley-floor trail reaches the Rinka waterfall over easy ground; trained legs continue to the Okrešelj cirque and its mountain hut, an hour and a half higher, beneath the north faces of the Grintovec group. Along the panoramic road, the Solčava farms keep alive the wool of the native Jezersko-Solčava sheep — hats, slippers and blankets travel home better than any fridge magnet.

Getting there

Allow 1h30 from Ljubljana via Gornji Grad. The valley pairs naturally with Velika Planina, on the other side of the massif.
