2000 years of the Roman Emona in Ljubljana

20 January 2014 1 min read

In 2014 Ljubljana celebrates 2000 years of the Roman City of Emona, situated on the site of today's Slovenian capital. An inscription from 14 AD about a donation given to Emona by the emperors Augustus and Tiberius proves its existance. Emona was built on a Roman model and due to its geographical position it played an important role in the empire. Many events will be organised to celebrate this anniversary. The most important event, called Ave Emona will take place from 22nd to 24th August in Ljubljana city centre. We will write about more detailed program as soon as it is released.

Throughout the year you can take a guided walk tour following the streets and squares of Roman Ljubljana in the company of a Roman legionary.
