Entry costs **€4 in summer 2026 (free with the Julian Alps: Bohinj card)**, the loop takes about an hour and a half, and if you continue to the end of the Voje valley you're rewarded with a 21-metre waterfall. While the crowds queue at Vintgar, here you mostly meet locals. I've been coming back every summer for twenty years — here's the full guide. ## Why Mostnica instead of the famous gorges? Slovenia has more celebrated gorges — [Vintgar near Bled](https://www.e-slovenie.com/en/articles/vintgar-gorge/) and [Tolmin on the Soča side](https://www.e-slovenie.com/en/articles/tolmin-gorges-vs-vintgar/) — but Mostnica has three things they don't: **no crowded boardwalks** (you walk a real forest trail along the canyon rim), **an entrance fee two to three times lower**, and a natural continuation: the Voje valley with its hay meadows and waterfall. Posted summer 2026 fees: - **Adults: €4** (reduced shoulder-season fee in April-May and October) - **Children 7-14: €2**, free under 7 - **Free with the Julian Alps: Bohinj card** — if you're staying in the valley your host often includes it, and it pays for itself on this entry alone - **Off season (November to March): free**, the booth is unmanned Bring **cash**: card payment at the booth isn't guaranteed. The fee is collected during the day in season; outside those hours nobody will stop you, but the money maintains the Triglav National Park trails. ## Getting to Stara Fužina - **On foot from the lake**: 20-25 minutes from Ribčev Laz on a flat path — the best option in summer - **By car**: paid car parks in Stara Fužina, around €3/hour in high season (€0.50-1.50/h the rest of the year) - **By summer shuttle**: local Promet Bohinj buses link Ribčev Laz and Stara Fužina from 13 June to 31 August 2026; same-day timetables on [promet.bohinj.si](https://promet.bohinj.si/en/), children under 14 ride free with an adult Car-free altogether? Bohinjska Bistrica has train service — including the scenic [Bohinj railway, 120 years old this year](https://www.e-slovenie.com/en/articles/bohinj-railway-120-years-scenic-train/) — then a local bus to the lake. ## The walk: short loop or waterfall **Gorge loop only: about 1.5 hours.** The trail follows the left rim of the canyon past the potholes, natural bridges and the famous **Little Elephant rock (slonček)**, then returns along the other side. Past the gorge, the trail opens onto the Voje valley, a hay-meadow alp framed by rock walls — one of the most peaceful landscapes in the park. Mostnica costs €4, needs no reservation and extends into a real hike to a 21 m waterfall. With kids or in peak season, I pick Mostnica every time. ### Is Mostnica Gorge dog-friendly? Yes, on a leash — the rule everywhere in Triglav National Park.
