# Ljubljana Airport Transfer: Bus, Shuttle, Taxi or Car? 2026 Comparison (plus Venice and Zagreb)

Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU, still called "Brnik" locally) sits 26 km from the city centre and 36 km from Lake Bled. In 2026 you have five ways out: the **Arriva public bus for €4** (hourly, 45 minutes, stop opposite Terminal A), a **shared shuttle with GoOpti or Nomago** (from €6 to €12, door to door), a **licensed taxi** from the rank at Terminal B (€38 to €62 to Ljubljana depending on the driver, rates published by the airport), a **pre-booked private transfer** (€49 to €84 depending on destination) and a **rental car** (from €25 to €45 a day plus the €16 vignette). The table below sums it up; then we cover Lake Bled, Bohinj, the Soča Valley and the coast, and answer the question we get most: what if you land in Venice or Zagreb instead?

Prices checked on 28 August 2026 on the Arriva, GoOpti and Nomago websites, the airport's official taxi list and transfer operators' sites. The bus is unbeatable on price; a shared shuttle is what I recommend to most readers heading into town or to Bled; a taxi only makes sense for three or four people, and only from the official rank.

## The public bus: €4, hourly, opposite Terminal A

The Arriva line links the airport with Ljubljana bus station (Avtobusna postaja, right next to the railway station) in 45 to 50 minutes with a few stops on the way. The flat fare has been **€4** since 1 August 2025, slightly less if you buy in advance at ijpp.arriva.si. Departures roughly every hour from 5 am to 9 pm on weekdays, a little less at weekends. Pay the driver (Visa, Mastercard and cash accepted) or use the ticket machine at the stop, which also sells combined IJPP bus + train tickets if you are continuing by rail to Maribor, Koper or Bled.

Where to catch it: leave arrivals and the stop is **opposite Terminal A**, a two-minute walk. In the other direction the bus leaves from platform 28 at Ljubljana bus station. For live departures the airport recommends the Slomet app (stop "Brnik/airport Ljubljana"), which is also the easiest way to check the last bus if you land in the evening.

The same line serves **Kranj** (€1.80 to €2, 15 minutes), Slovenia's fourth city, with frequent onward buses to Bled (€3.60) and Bohinj (€6.70). Outside summer this is the cheapest way to the lakes.

## Shared shuttles: GoOpti and Nomago

This is what I use most often myself. An 8-seat minibus picks you up outside the terminal and drops you at the address of your choice, in Ljubljana as well as Bled, Bohinj, Bovec or Piran. [GoOpti](https://www.goopti.com/en/?a=7754FEE3D6E703147D4690A8E5467A7EA5DE4099), the Ljubljana company that invented the model in 2011, lists airport to Ljubljana **from €6** and airport to Bled from €13: prices are dynamic and climb as the date approaches and seats fill up. Book when you book your flight, and choose a flexible departure window rather than a fixed time to get the floor price. The price you pay is guaranteed even if you end up alone in the van.

**Nomago Shuttle**, the other national operator, works the same way "from €12" and has a desk at Terminal B, handy if you have not booked anything. Both also serve Venice, Treviso, Trieste, Zagreb, Vienna and Graz airports, more on that below. On Trustpilot GoOpti scores 4/5 from nearly 2,000 reviews: complaints are almost always about waiting while passengers are grouped, rarely about safety or price.

## Taxi at the airport: the official rank and the published rates

The airport runs no taxi of its own; it allocates spaces in front of **Terminal B** by public tender to around twenty licensed drivers (permits valid 16 April 2026 to 31 March 2027) and publishes their rate card on lju-airport.si. Every taxi runs on the meter: flag fall €1.95 to €5, then €1.20 to €1.80 per kilometre, plus a waiting tariff in traffic and sometimes €2 per bag. Indicative fares to Ljubljana bus station range from **€38 to €62** depending on the driver, most around €55; to Bled €44 to €71; to Kranj €14 to €30. Card payment is compulsory and the receipt must itemise every element of the price.

Two practical rules. First, **refuse anyone who approaches you** in the hall: soliciting is banned, and the unlicensed drivers who tout for passengers are exactly the ones who inflate the bill. Second, since the rate card is public, compare the prices displayed on the windows before getting in; the airport itself invites you to refuse a ride and ask the next taxi if in doubt. At the same price, a pre-booked shuttle or fixed-fare private transfer is more predictable.

## Private transfer: fixed price, driver with a name board

A private transfer is booked online before you fly: the driver tracks your flight, waits in arrivals with your name and takes you straight to the hotel, no meter. Expect **€49 to €69 to Ljubljana and €59 to €84 to Bled**, €110 to €130 to Bovec or Piran, for a saloon carrying up to 3; a 6-8 seat van costs €20 to €40 more. Long-established operators (Airtrail since 2013, Prevozi Bleiweis based in Brnik itself) and international platforms (Welcome Pickups, €84 to Bled) are much of a muchness; newcomers are plentiful, so check that the company is on the airport's licensed taxi list or holds a passenger transport licence, and that the booking confirms a total price.

It is the right choice for a family with a pushchair and suitcases, an arrival after 9 pm when the bus has stopped, or a group of four splitting the fare and reaching Bled for the price of a shuttle.

## Renting a car at the airport

Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Sixt, Budget and Enterprise have desks in the arrivals hall, alongside local firms that are often cheaper. Budget €25 to €45 a day in low season, €45 to €70 in July and August, with an airport surcharge of about 8% compared with a downtown office. The exit road leads straight onto the expressway and then the A2 motorway, so you need the [Slovenian e-vignette](https://www.e-slovenie.com/en/articles/slovenia-highway-vignette/) (€16 for 7 days in 2026), bought online at evinjeta.dars.si in two minutes and tied to your number plate; without it the fine runs to hundreds of euros. Bled deserves a word. In summer (line VB from 27 April to 30 September, daily from 22 June to 1 September) Arriva routes a Ljubljana → Brnik → Bled service through the airport: departures from the airport at 9:05 am and then hourly until 7:05 pm, arriving in Bled 30 minutes later, with returns from Bled between 9 am and 7 pm. Off-season, take the bus to Kranj and an hourly Kranj → Bled bus, or a door-to-door shuttle. ## Landing in Venice: how to reach Slovenia

Venice Marco Polo and Treviso are often far cheaper than Ljubljana from the UK, Ireland and North America, and Slovenia is only 2 h 30 away by road. Four solutions, from simplest to cheapest:

- **GoOpti or Nomago shared shuttle: **pick-up right at Marco Polo or Treviso, drop-off at your hotel in Ljubljana, Bled, Bovec or Piran. Allow 3 h to 3 h 30 and a fare starting around €20 per person if you book early; it is the only way to go straight from the plane to Lake Bled with no change. - **Long-distance bus: **FlixBus, Nomago and Itabus link Venice Mestre (sometimes the airport itself) with Ljubljana bus station in 3 h 30 to 3 h 55, €24 to €40 depending on the date, several departures a day. You first need to reach Mestre from the airport (ATVO or ACTV bus, 20 minutes, €10).
- **Train: **Venice Santa Lucia → Trieste (2 h, about €16), then Trieste → Villa Opicina → Ljubljana with a change at the border (2 h 50, about €12). Around 5 h and €28 in total, no reservation needed, two connections a day on the Slovenian side. Scenic but slow: one for rail fans.
- **Rental car: **2 h 30 via the A4 and A34 to Gorizia and Nova Gorica, or the A4 to Trieste then Sežana. Check the rental company allows cross-border travel and buy the Slovenian e-vignette from the border; one-way drop-off in Slovenia often costs €100 and up, so it is usually better to return the car to Venice.

## Landing in Zagreb: 1 h 45 from Slovenia, no border checks

Franjo Tuđman Airport is 1 h 45 from Ljubljana by motorway and, since Croatia joined the Schengen area on 1 January 2023, there are no systematic border checks any more. It is the natural gateway to eastern Slovenia (Maribor, Ptuj, the thermal spas) and a good alternative for Ljubljana.

- **Shared shuttle: **[GoOpti](https://www.goopti.com/en/?a=7754FEE3D6E703147D4690A8E5467A7EA5DE4099) and Nomago pick up at Zagreb Airport and drop you at any address in Slovenia, 2 h to 2 h 30, €20 to €40 booked early. Easiest with luggage.
- **Train: **take the airport shuttle to the main station (Glavni kolodvor, 35 minutes, about €8), then the EuroCity Zagreb → Ljubljana, 2 h 15 to 2 h 30, two to three trains a day, €9 to €25 depending on the fare (Slovenian Railways' promotional tickets are sold in advance at potniski.sz.si).
- **Bus: **FlixBus, Arriva and Nomago, around twenty departures a day from Zagreb bus station, 2 h 25 to 2 h 50, €5 to €22.
- **Car: **1 h 45 via the Croatian A3 and Slovenian A2; Croatian toll at the exit, Slovenian e-vignette compulsory from Obrežje. Check the rental company allows Slovenia (common, sometimes with a fee).

## What about Trieste?

Trieste Airport (Ronchi dei Legionari) is the closest to the border: 1 h 20 by bus to Ljubljana (FlixBus, Nomago, GoOpti, €10 to €21), 1 h by car, 40 minutes to Sežana or Nova Gorica. Ryanair and a handful of Italian routes make it a practical entry point for the Karst, the coast and the Soča.

## News: direct New York to Ljubljana flights from May 2027

Announced on 25 August 2026: United Airlines will launch **Newark → Ljubljana on 12 May 2027**, four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) on a 231-seat Boeing 767-400ER, the first regular wide-body service at Brnik since Adria's New York route ended in 1991 and United's third ex-Yugoslav destination after Dubrovnik and Split. Tickets are already on sale on united.com. With 133,884 American visitors in the first seven months of 2026 (up 23%), the airport is bracing for more travellers combining Ljubljana, Bled and the coast: everything on this page applies to them, shared shuttles first.

The few complaints concern waiting while passengers are grouped, so allow 20 to 30 minutes of slack.

### Is it better to fly into Venice or Ljubljana for Slovenia?

Ljubljana if the fare is reasonable: you are 25 minutes from the centre and 35 minutes from Bled.
