Skiing in Slovenia

After a lovely sunny day in Krvavec ski resort, I have decided to share with you more about skiing in Slovenia.

Krvavec

Slovenian ski resorts may not be as known as the ones in Austria, Switzerland or France, the ski runs may not be as long, but they offer skiing in the unspoilt nature, modern equipment and reasonable prices.

Slovenes are very good skiers. When still part of Yugoslavia, Slovenes were always representing the country in alpine skiing championships. Bojan Krizaj, Rok Petrovic, Jure Franko, Mateja Svet were big names in the “white circus” as peope call it. And these days we have Tina Maze. 🙂

The closest ski resort to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is Krvavec, only half an hour away. Kranjska gora, Vogel, Kope and Kanin in the Julian Alps, Golte, Rogla and Pohorje plateau in the East, smaller resorts Cerkno and Stari Vrh in the centre of Slovenia. If I only mention the biggest.  They all offer magnificant views!

They are all modern and well equipped, with slopes for children and beginners, possibility for skiing lessons (with ski instructors that speak foreign languages), charming hotels or counrty inns accommodation, excellent home made food in nearby restaurants. Slovenian ski resorts are great for families and moderate skiers that want a different type of holiday, away from the over crowded and big ski resorts. Slovenia is a perfect solution for people looking for a relaxing holiday in the nature, people that enjoy outdoor sports, home made food and new cultures. If you don’t like skiing all day long, you can try cross country skiing or snowshoeing or simply enjoy the fresh air and amazing views.

The great thing in Slovenia are small distances. Wherever you live or stay, you are very close to at least one ski resort. And as our saying goes  “In one day you can swim in Adriatic sea, ski in the Alps and relax in a thermal spa in the East”, you will enjoy Slovenia any time of the year. 🙂

  1. Dear Barbara,

Diana wrote to me, that you have send an email to me. I cannot remember. Perhaps you will send it again.

We are very interested in skiing. We would like to come to Slowenia in winter, but it is a big distance. Perhaps we will do it, when Anne has retired, that will mean in three years. Then we have more time.

We hope, you and your family are well. Probably we come with a group from Gau-Algesheim to Chausseroze in September. We look forward to see Diana and Patrick – and perhaps you.

    Best wishes to Slowenia.
